The biggest LEGO Marvel sets of all time – October 2022

Move over, 76178 Daily Bugle: there’s a new biggest LEGO Marvel set of all time in town, and it’s coming straight for our wallets.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the LEGO Marvel theme, and the LEGO Group is celebrating in a big way with not one, not two, but three new sets shooting over the £200 barrier – and two of those by some distance. It means the entire landscape of the biggest LEGO Marvel sets ever released has shifted considerably over the past few months, with three new contenders entering the fray.

Scroll down to find out where they fit into the mix, and how the list is now bookended by two very similar sets at very different scales…

7 – 76105 The Hulkbuster: Ultron Edition

Price: £119.99 / $119.99 / €129.99 Pieces: 1,363 Release date: March 1, 2018 Available: Retired

LEGO Marvel’s earliest giant Iron Man suit was still relatively modest in 2018’s 76105 The Hulkbuster: Ultron Edition, which aimed only a little higher than the multiple minifigure-scale Hulkbusters we’d had previously. At 1,363 pieces for £119.99 / $119.99 / €129.99, it was an accessible and affordable way to get a taste of what LEGO Marvel could do with a slightly bigger budget – without breaking the bank.

6 – 76193 The Guardians’ Ship

Price: £139.99 / $159.99 / €159.99 Pieces: 1,901 Release date: June 1, 2021 Available: Now

Not the first set on this list to take its cues from the LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series subtheme, this Avengers: Infinity War-inspired set goes as far as including a display stand for the Guardians of the Galaxy’s bright orange ride. 76193 The Guardians’ Ship is still way more affordable than even Star Wars’ cheapest UCS sets, however, and includes a minifigure line-up 75341 Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder could only dream of.

5 – 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum

Price: £214.99 / $249.99 / €249.99 Pieces: 2,708 Release date: August 1, 2022 Available: Now

One of three new additions to this list for 2022, 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum is the LEGO Marvel theme’s second set designed to fit the modular building format. Hooked to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it’s the set we’ve been waiting for since 2018’s 76108 Sanctum Sanctorum Showdown, and is a great addition to any modular street – whether you’re Marvel mad or not.

4 – 76215 Black Panther

Price: £299.99 / $349.99 / €349.99 Pieces: 2,961 Release date: October 1, 2022 Available: Now

Taking pretty much everyone by surprise earlier this year, 76215 Black Panther has arrived to celebrate the upcoming release of superhero sequel Wakanda Forever. As a 2,961-piece life-sized bust of the iconic character, it’s a brand new type of product for the LEGO Marvel theme, soaring past the size and price point of previous helmets and busts. Its reception so far has been… mixed.

3 – 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier

Price: £279.99 / $349.99 / €349.99 Pieces: 2,996 Release date: March 1, 2015 Available: Retired

The very first Marvel direct-to-consumer set is still the closest the theme has come to truly aping the LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series, weighing in at a staggering 2,996 pieces for a microscale replica of the SHIELD Helicarrier. The vehicle sits on a brick-built display stand, and even comes with an information plaque that matches the style of the UCS subtheme, along with a separate display stand for its minifigures.

2 – 76178 Daily Bugle

Price: £299.99 / $349.99 / €349.99 Pieces: 3,772 Release date: June 1, 2021 Available: Now

After a year and a half on the throne, 76178 Daily Bugle has lost its crown as the largest LEGO Marvel set of all time. But that’s to take nothing away from this towering skyscraper, which remains the theme’s biggest model anchored around minifigures, and includes a whopping 25 characters, several of which are unique to this set. With 3,772 pieces in the box for £299.99 / $349.99 / €399.99, it also looks like increasingly good value next to the new champion – even with a price increase in 2022.

1 – 76210 Hulkbuster

Price: £474.99 / $549.99 / €549.99 Pieces: 4,049 Release date: November 4 (VIPs), November 9 (wide), 2022 Available: Coming soon

Announced earlier today, 76210 Hulkbuster is not only the biggest LEGO Marvel set of 2022, but also the biggest LEGO Marvel set the LEGO Group has ever committed to ABS – at least in terms of piece count. It bests the Bugle by 277 bricks (though includes 24 fewer minifigures), and costs a whopping £175 / $200 / €200 more than that Spider-Man set. Find out more about this brand new Iron Man suit here.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
