Top five movie references in LEGO Ideas 21330 Home Alone

Coming in as the biggest LEGO Ideas set to date, 21330 Home Alone is packed with plenty of nods to the original movie – here’s our favourite.

Details of the huge set debuted last week, with the LEGO Group revealing that 21330 Home Alone has a piece count of 3,955 bricks and will be available from November 1. The set is packed with plenty of great play features and spot-on minifigures of characters from the popular festive film and will cost £229.99 / $249.99 / €249.99.

Digging deeper into what’s included in the iconic McCallister homestead reveals all sorts of subtle nods to the original film, demonstrating just how much fun the LEGO design team must have had creating it. Here are the top five references we noticed.

5 – The GOAT himself

To deter the Wet Bandits, Marv and Harry, from breaking into his house, resourceful Kevin sets up a cardboard standee of basketball icon Michael Jordan on a train that moves around a track in the living room. For 21330 Home Alone, a flat tile with a sticker image of a generic basketball player is included, with a nod to Jordan’s classic 23 shirt.

4 – Iron Man

When hapless Harry attempt to break into the McCallisters’ basement, he stumbles into a number of sneaky traps left by Kevin. One of these results in him receiving a steam iron to the face, leaving an indelible imprint. The same mark can be seen on Harry’s minifigure, one of two face options available for the character.

3 – Ya filthy animal

In the kitchen of 21330 Home Alone, fans will discover another classic movie reference. A stickered tile on the TV screen shows the film-within-a-film ‘Angels with Filthy Souls’ playing on it. This fictional film proves to be a hilarious and effective scare to deter the would-be burglars.

2 – A close shave

Located in the detailed bathroom of the house is the iconic round mirror that Kevin uses to try out his dad’s aftershave. This is a great and very subtle touch, and one that links to Kevin’s classic screaming, one of two sides of the minifigure’s face included with the set.

1 – Best-laid plans

The larger the LEGO set, the bigger the instruction manual and 21330 Home Alone is no exception. The hefty booklet is designed to look like the battle plans Kevin draws up in the movie, complete with scrawled information on the various painful traps left out for the Wet Bandits.
