VIDEO: Was 2021 the best year for LEGO yet?

Kick back with Brick Fanatics as we round up what may have been the best year for LEGO fans yet, with exclusive input from the LEGO for Adults and LEGO Ideas teams.

To not put too fine a point on things, 2021 was basically the year the LEGO Group went big. Three of the biggest LEGO sets of all time, the biggest Marvel set of all time and the biggest Ideas set of all time all debuted over the past 12 months, while the LEGO Group also announced record-high profits for the first half of the year.

Those aren’t the only reasons 2021 will go down in LEGO history, though – for the rest, pull up a chair and hit play on our in-depth recap of the entire year, which also features input from LEGO for Adults Head of Product Gen Cruz and LEGO Ideas designers Sam Johnson and Antica Bracanov.

Of course, while there’s plenty to celebrate about LEGO in 2021 – from its welcome push for diversity to its eclectic collection of new concepts under its LEGO for Adults umbrella – not everything was rosy. Its only new in-house product line, LEGO VIDIYO, stalled right out of the gate, and we’ve touched on what went wrong with the augmented-reality theme.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
