Who’s afraid of a little old LEGO Ideas Taylor Swift set?
The latest LEGO Ideas 10K project shakes off a run of Taylor Swift-inspired sets to fill a blank space in the LEGO music portfolio.
LEGO Taylor Swift mania peaked last year as five different projects inspired by the global superstar reached the second 2023 review, four of which were all based on the Lover House and were pretty much impossible to pick between. The LEGO Group ultimately went with none of them, so we’re still waiting on the first official collaboration between the world’s biggest pop star and the world’s biggest toy brand.
21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera fan designer Marc Corfmat (or Minibrick Productions) is now hoping to remedy that with his The Eras of Taylor Swift project, which serves up a design more closely intertwined with the LEGO Art theme than previous LEGO Ideas music sets (such as 21339 BTS Dynamite).
The 1,410-piece build recreates the iconic Eras Tour poster, with panels for each of Swift’s first 10 albums – all of which can be removed to reveal a minifigure of Taylor Swift based on the album’s era. It’s a novel concept for a LEGO set, blending elements of the Art and DOTS themes with a more minifigure-centric display model, and feels like a perfect pick for a theme that’s constantly striving to do new things.
That’s strengthened too by the fact that this design has reached the third 2024 review stage in less than two months, demonstrating the continued demand among LEGO and Taylor Swift fans for a collab. The decision to produce it as an official LEGO set ultimately lies with the LEGO Ideas review board, though – and there are all sorts of factors to consider, not least working out a deal with Swift’s brand team.
We’ll find out one way or another when the LEGO Group announces the results of the third 2024 review, which will likely happen around summer 2025.
