Five huge proposals for the rumoured $470 LEGO Harry Potter set

A massive $470 LEGO Harry Potter set is rumoured for next year and we’ve got a few ideas for what it could possibly be based on.

A reported list for LEGO Harry Potter in summer 2022 includes a build with a potential price tag of $469.99, which would beat the current largest set in the theme – 75978 Diagon Alley – by $70. This is also hot on the heels of a rumoured $530 LEGO Star Wars creation.

While these rumours are currently just that and unconfirmed by the LEGO Group, hence why they should be treated with caution, there’s plenty of places and things in the Wizarding World that could inspire such a set.

5 – A Diagon Alley expansion

While a Gringotts expansion to 75978 Diagon Alley was previously revealed to not be in the current plans of the LEGO Harry Potter design team in a statement made by the LEGO Group in July of 2021, a build with such a price tag could at least partially recreate the magical bank as well as the vaults beneath it.

Additionally, rather than focus wholly on Gringotts, more of the locations within Diagon Alley could be transformed such as Knockturn Alley, of which the entrance was left open and unoccupied in the main thoroughfare of 75978 Diagon Alley.

4 – Another school of witchcraft and wizardry

Most may recognise Hogwarts as the school of witchcraft and wizardry within the Wizarding World, but it is only one of many that have never been seen on screens or in most other media. With locations in America, Japan, Brazil and more, the official Wizarding World website has documented seven educational facilities.

As unlikely as it may seem given that none of the schools, other than students for Beauxbatons and the Durmstrang Institute, have been seen in the movies, a model approaching one or more of them in a similar scale to 71043 Hogwarts Castle could explain the rumoured $470 price.

3 – Azkaban

The prison of Azkaban is another simple, but iconic location featured in the Harry Potter movies that has yet to be reimagined in bricks officially. The triangular structure was built to contain the most dangerous wizards and witches in the world.

Surrounded by the ocean, the building could warrant a massive model similar in height and scale to 76178 Daily Bugle, with sections that can open to reveal the malicious criminals inside. Though this may also mean that the build would likely lack colour, given the monochrome nature of Azkaban.

2 – The Quidditch pitch

In the current era of LEGO Harry Potter, 75956 Quidditch Match is the only set we have received dedicated to the fictional sport and was launched in 2018. With four years having passed and no other versions of the recognisable pitch releasing since, it may be time for another, larger set for the location.

The Hogwarts Quidditch pitch as seen in the movies features sixteen stands, which on the image above are without the house colours, showing the wooden structure underneath. A set worth $470 could faithfully recreate the pitch with all the towers, as well as possibly include clear display stands to pose the players as if they were in the middle of a match.

1 – A massive vehicle model

Following rumours of a massive LEGO for Adults Delorean in 2022, it could be that LEGO Harry Potter shares a similar fate in summer by transforming one of the franchise’s iconic vehicles into a huge and detailed build.

The most obvious choices would be the Ford Anglia or the Hogwarts Express, though a recreation of the scene featuring both could also be possible given the rumoured price tag. Although not confirmed, the last LEGO version of either was in 75968 4 Privet Drive in 2020 and 75955 Hogwarts Express in 2018 respectively.

I miss a very obvious option: an extension to the current microscale Hogwarts set 71043
