Five things we found in LEGO Ideas 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone
LEGO Ideas 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone is filled with references to the original game as well as more details you may have missed.
Following his debut in LEGO Dimensions, LEGO Ideas 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone gives the blue blur his first dedicated LEGO set after a successful pitch from Sonic enthusiast Viv Grannell on the platform.
The LEGO designers have transformed the fan-designed model into an official creation coming soon to the official online store, with plenty of details to spot in the theme’s latest set.
The Chaos Emeralds
Seven gem bricks are included on a display stand for the updated Sonic minifigure. Although only six Chaos Emeralds appeared in the first game, the decision has been made to include the final crystal from the Mega Drive sequel in the set to complete the collection.
Power-Ups
Two Power-Ups from the first Sonic the Hedgehog game are included in the new LEGO Ideas model, with brick-built screens to represent Power Sneakers and Invincibility. The original sprites have been recreated as stickers and appear on item boxes just like they did on the original title. Stickers for at least two more powers are also included.
A life counter
At the bottom left of LEGO Ideas 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone, a sticker for the life counter is placed on the black base and reveals that Sonic has three more chances to complete the level before it is game over.
New printed pieces
While much of the designs in the 2022 LEGO Ideas model are stickers, there are a few printed pieces for the grass of Green Hill Zone that replicate the pixel art found in the original games. This pairs with the checkerboard pattern of the zone’s ground to help the build feel more authentic.
Room for more
On both sides of LEGO Ideas 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone, Technic pins and attachment points offer room for more Sonic sets, be it multiple copies of the LEGO Ideas creation or other brick-built Sonic courses.
