More rumoured details on LEGO Star Wars 75396 Escape from the Sarlacc Pit

Fresh details on the rumoured LEGO Star Wars 75396 Escape from the Sarlacc Pit have surfaced online, suggesting the set will include a surprise 25th-anniversary minifigure.

Previously slated to be among the LEGO Star Wars summer 2024 range, 75396 Escape from the Sarlacc Pit sounds for the most part like a redux of 2012’s 9496 Desert Skiff and 2017’s 75174 Desert Skiff Escape. Said to be included in the box are a single Desert Skiff and a small Sarlacc Pit, mimicking the makeup of its predecessors.

The 558-piece model will reportedly have a much larger minifigure selection, though – and it’s within that spread that new details have now emerged. Redditor Clay_Bricks reports (via Brick Clicker) that 75396 Escape from the Sarlacc Pit will include Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, Boba Fett, a Weequay… and an unknown 25th-anniversary minifigure.

The LEGO Group has already confirmed that there will be a total of six different LEGO Star Wars 25th-anniversary minifigures throughout 2024, the first three of which are ARC Trooper Fives, Darth Malak and Saw Gerrera. Previous rumours suggested that the rest will be comprised of Cal Kestis, young Princess Leia from the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series, and pink-tinted astromech droid R2-KT.

It now appears that at least one of those rumours may be off-base, though – at least if this new info is accurate. The specific identity of the 25th-anniversary minifigure supposedly included in 75396 Escape from the Sarlacc Pit has yet to be reported, but it seems as good a place as any for the Nien Nunb minifigure that May the 4th poster artist Joe Hogan has been teasing to show up.

Beyond that mystery character, 75396 Escape from the Sarlacc Pit is said to also include another brand new Return of the Jedi hairpiece for Luke Skywalker, which is surprising given the LEGO Star Wars team has only just cooked up a new one for him in last year’s 75352 Emperor’s Throne Room Diorama. With one eye on the opening scenes of Episode VI, perhaps we’re looking at Luke’s windswept hair as he battles across Jabba’s Sail Barge.

Nothing has been confirmed at this stage, and that’s true too of 75396 Escape from the Sarlacc Pit as a whole. Treat news of the set’s details – including its rumoured $79.99 price point and August 1 release date – lightly until the LEGO Group officially unveils the summer 2024 LEGO Star Wars wave. I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
