Six LEGO Star Wars sets and minifigures we need from The Skywalker Saga

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s new trailer features plenty of brand new sets and minifigures we’d love to see in real life – here’s just six.

The latest trailer for TT Games’ saga-spanning sequel debuted at Gamescom 2021’s Opening Night Live yesterday, showing off more of the characters, levels and gameplay we can expect from LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

And while it’s important to note that TT Games has its own model designers that come up with new minifigures and builds, and those we’ll see in the game are therefore no way indicative of what’s coming up for the LEGO Star Wars theme, there’s still plenty in even just that two-minute trailer we’d love to see on shelves…

6 – Padmé Amidala (The Phantom Menace)

We’ve had an almost-criminal lack of Padmé minifigures over the past 22 years, and not a single one based on the character’s attire from her infiltration of Theed at the end of The Phantom Menace. She’s front and centre at the beginning of the new LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga trailer, though, with a design we’d love to see turned into a physical minifigure.

5 – Kylo Ren’s TIE Whisper

For Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Kylo Ren upgraded his personal ship from a Silencer to a Whisper, presumably reflecting how shouty he’d become by the end of The Last Jedi. We’ve already had his Episode VIII ship in 75179 Kylo Ren’s TIE Fighter, but the ball cockpit and brightly-coloured wings of the TIE Whisper set this vehicle apart enough to warrant another set.

4 – Luke Skywalker (The Last Jedi)

We’ve already had two Luke Skywalker minifigures from The Last Jedi, yes, but what about a third? Just as it did in the movie, Luke’s Force projection variant offers enough of a twist on his Ahch-To appearance (which debuted in 2019’s 75245 Star Wars Advent Calendar) to deserve its own unique minifigure.

3 – Opee sea killer

One of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s brand new levels will focus on The Phantom Menace’s underwater chase sequence on Naboo, as Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Jar-Jar all attempt to outrun the enormous Opee sea killer (or ‘Gooberfish’). We’ve had two Gungan subs in LEGO so far, but we’ve never had the big fish that pursues it (or the bigger fish, come to think of it).

2 – Force ghost minifigures

We’re basically never going to stop banging the drum for Force ghost minifigures, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has only added fuel to the fire with its ghost Obi-Wan minifigure. It’s also a nice call back to the original LEGO Star Wars video games from 2005 and 2006, which first showed us what Force ghost minifigures could look like. Happily, the LEGO Group says they’re not off the table…

1 – Jango Fett’s Slave I

Or Jango Fett’s Starship, if you prefer. The one and only Firespray in Jango hues arrived alongside Star Wars: Attack of the Clones in 2002, with every subsequent set instead painted in Boba Fett’s colour scheme of grey, sand green, dark red and brown. We’re long overdue a prequel-themed update to the ship, preferably in the scale of 2019’s 75243 Slave I – 20th Anniversary Edition, and the one featured in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga would do nicely.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is currently scheduled to arrive in spring 2022, but we’ve all heard that story before. For now, check out the latest trailer in full one more time.
