LEGO fans question if there’s a market for 21339 BTS Dynamite

Some LEGO fans have questioned if there’s actually a market for LEGO Ideas 21339 BTS Dynamite – following one of the most well-received launches ever.

Early reactions to the latest LEGO Ideas set, centred around K-pop band BTS, have been overwhelmingly positive on the whole. In fact, the teaser for the set on Twitter became one of the LEGO Group’s most-liked tweets ever.

However, there are still some sceptics who don’t think the set is a good idea. Over on Instagram, some critical LEGO fans commented on the LEGO Group’s announcement post, leaving messages like ‘lots of great artist[s] out there but y’all chose to release BTS…’ and ‘Not sure the majority of BTS fans can afford a $100 LEGO set’.

Nonetheless, other Instagram users were quick to defend the set, writing: “I love seeing people realize [LEGO] is a business and they’re selling things to make money and not for their individual tastes.”

Indeed, judging from the quite literally thousands of BTS fans who have retweeted, commented, and shared the announcement in excitement, it seems any fears that 21339 BTS Dynamite was too niche to attract buyers will be unfounded. It’s a sign to both fans and the LEGO Group that, just because a set might try something new or appeal to people outside of the traditional LEGO community, doesn’t mean that it won’t go down well with new audiences.

For some BTS fans, 21339 makes a nice change from the usual band merch. One person commented on Reddit: “At $99.99 it’s the cheapest BTS merch you can buy,” while another wrote: “I’ve seen people buy dozens of copies of one album just so they can get a full set of cards, it’s crazy.”
