LEGO Marvel 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet visual guide and gallery

Take a closer look at the details to be found in 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet in our visual guide to the upcoming LEGO Marvel set.

As revealed today, a new 18+ LEGO Marvel set will be releasing on April 1, 2023 in the shape of 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet. The 602-piece build is based on the look of the accessory worn by Peter Quill in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, and is a key element of the MCU character’s signature look.

Although it appears to be more of a mask than a full-on helmet, the upcoming model is still a welcome addition to the LEGO Marvel theme, although it’s high price may prove to be a tough barrier of entry for some fans and collectors.

We’ve taken a deep dive into 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet and here’s our visual guide and gallery of the set, revealing all of the essential details that you need to know.

LEGO Marvel 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet comparison

Compared to the prop used in the live-action MCU movies, 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet seems to be a fairly accurate interpretation of its original source material. Although a much smaller scaled version of the full-size item, the helmet looks like it’ll make a fine display piece, even if the lack of any sort of a head at the back of the model is a little disconcerting.

With fewer curves than 75349 Captain Rex Helmet and 75350 Clone Commander Cody Helmet, the LEGO Marvel offering manages to reasonably convey the overall shape of Star-Lord’s headgear. Unfortunately we don’t yet know what the inside of the helmet looks like or if the set’s designers have included any interior details to compliment the exterior’s style, but we suspect not.

LEGO Marvel 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet build

As with other LEGO helmet sets, 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet appears to follow a tried-and-tested construction method. A central cube has multiple brackets attached to it, which allow for the helmet’s exterior pieces to then be added. This method seems particularly well-suited to this model, creating an almost layered effect that helps to suggest the headgear’s cobbled-together and battered origins.

However, with just two thirds of 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet being the focus of the build, and only 602 pieces included in the set, we suspect it won’t take long to assemble the model ready for displaying alongside the likes of the most recent similar LEGO Marvel set, 76165 Iron Man Helmet.

LEGO Marvel 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet details

The limited number of images we have for the upcoming 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet reveal plenty of details present in the model, from the signature red eye lenses to the intricate breathing apparatus located on each side of the mask. The eyes in particular seem to benefit from the lack of a back to the model (assuming they’re not stickers), which may allow for light to stream through and make the lenses appear to almost glow.

The helmet features a mix of large, printed and drum-lacquered gold elements, although it’s a little tricky at this stage to say if any specific new pieces have been created for the set. The sloped area at the front of the mask does appear to be printed, as is the information plaque that attaches at the front to the black display plinth.

LEGO Marvel 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet functionality

In what seems like a bizarre marketing decision (although it may not have been entirely deliberate), the LEGO Group has released images of 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet doubling up as, yes, a pencil pot. The lack of a top to the helmet design does allow for the model to offer this sort of functionality, sure, but it does seem to be a slightly strange selling point.

Then again, it’s certainly in keeping with the tongue-in-cheek tone of Chris Pratt’s Guardians of the Galaxy character and potentially something Star-Lord himself (or at least Rocket) would approve of.

LEGO Marvel 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet will launch on April 1, 2023 priced at £69.99 / $79.99 / €79.99, and is available to pre-order now.
