LEGO Across the Spider-Verse animator recreates Oscars Barbie performance

A viral moment from the 2024 Oscars ceremony has been recreated by the animator behind Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s LEGO universe.

Those who missed the 2024 Oscars ceremony may want to catch up on at least one of the show’s many live performances featuring Ryan Gosling singing I’m Just Ken from the Barbie movie. Preston Mutanga of the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse LEGO scene, also known as LegoMe_TheOG on YouTube, has now tackled this performance in their latest LEGO recreation.

The short video offers a LEGO version of one of the major scenes from the show, depicting the performers and the stage itself in digital LEGO pieces and minifigures. It’s the latest in the animator’s LEGO recreations following an impressive scene in Across the Spider-Verse.

Compared to the real performance, it’s an impressive effort and you can match the design of the stage and the outfits accordingly. The description of the animation notes that Mutanga was going to do more than just a short scene, though that might not be on the table anymore.

There are no official LEGO Barbie sets or minifigures and as such, any physical recreations of the movie or I’m Just Ken may be more difficult than they are digitally since pink clothing is not a common fashion choice for minifigures.

It’s not the first time that Mutanga has approached a LEGO Barbie recreation, though their other Barbie animation is a bit different to this one.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
