Six fantastic LEGO sets to pick up with double VIP points

With the latest LEGO double VIP points offer due to launch at midnight, now might be the right time to make that dream purchase.

We’ve said it before, but a LEGO double VIP points event really is the best time to buy your LEGO sets (and we explain why, and what this whole VIP thing is all about, here). If you’ve been eyeing up one of the more… substantial… sets on offer, then what is effectively 10% cash back might just be enough to have you heading for your local LEGO store, or navigating to LEGO.com. There are plenty of more modestly priced sets that might have caught your eye too.

We take a look at a few of the sets that you might want to think about, either because the points make them a bit more attractive, because they might not be around that much longer, or just because with existing discounts, they become even better value.

75192 Millennium Falcon

If you’re really in the mood to push the boat out, then there isn’t a LEGO Star Wars fan out there that wouldn’t want the most iconic ship of all in a franchise that has seen the word ‘iconic’ thrown around like confetti. At £699.99 it’s very much a considered purchase, but those double VIP points will give you £70 to play with on a future purchase.

71043 Hogwarts Castle

Fair warning – you’ll need a large table if you’re going to embark on building the frankly enormous edifice that is Hogwarts Castle. A set that is difficult to find but has received plaudits from the day it was released from just about everyone who has ever built it. The set has been available for nearly four years, and while we’re not aware of a retirement date just yet, it won’t be around for ever.

10284 Camp Nou – FC Barcelona

Fans of the beautiful game might wish to consider the home of football in Barcelona, the Camp Nou. Currently reduced by 10%, this brings the price down from £289.99 to £260.99. Whether that will exclude it from the double points offer, we don’t know at this point, so if you’re interested, check before you take the plunge.

41714 Andrea’s Theatre School

This new set has proved popular with many people who wouldn’t normally look at a Friends set, as they discover that with some minor adjustments, it can become the perfect home for their Muppet minifigures. With a stage, curtains, seats for the audience and a box for perennial grumps, Waldorf and Statler, it’s the perfect base to create your Muppet Theatre. Or of course you could use it as the Friends set it was designed to be!

76832 XL-15 Spaceship

While the reviews for the new Lightyear film may be mixed, there’s no doubt that the eponymous hero’s ship is a smash hit in LEGO form. We’re already calling it a future classic, as you can read in our review. It’s pretty good value at £44.99, but with double VIP points on top, it makes it a bargain.

31206 The Rolling Stones

For the more artistically inclined – or the fan of good old rock and roll – what better to build and display on your wall than the most famous set of lips since Marilyn Monroe? This LEGO set, which took art out of its traditional frame and put it right in your face, is barely recognisable as LEGO, and would look at home on any wall, delighting fans of the septuagenarian rockers everywhere.

We advise you to check beforehand in case there are any sets that are excluded from the double VIP points promotion if you’re travelling to a store with a particular set in mind, and if so, it’s always worth calling ahead to check that what you’re after is in stock.
