Speeding into the history of LEGO Racers

The legend of LEGO racers is about to unfold as the official LEGO Games podcast investigates the development of the kart-racing title and the challenges that were faced.

For younger builders, the days of LEGO racers may be nothing more than brick mythos but the history of the theme spans far beyond the physical sets. LEGO Racers was also the name of the LEGO Group’s first kart racer video game.

Bits N’ Bricks is digging deep into the development of LEGO Racers with hosts Ethan Vincent and Brian Crecente joined by guests such as developer High Voltage’s Chief Creative Officer, Eric Nofsinger.

You can listen to the full episode for yourself above, which is the latest in the second season of the podcast. As usual, there are quite a few secrets to learn about the game and how it came to be within but be warned that there are misuses of the LEGO trademark. We daren’t repeat the spoken word here for fear of angering the Bits N’ Bricks announcer.

As a small teaser for what you can expect, Eric comments on players saying: “It’s been over 20 years since we shipped it and, to this day, both Kerry Ganofsky and myself receive regular – I would say at least multiple times a week – emails from fans saying how much this game impacted their childhood.”

A full transcript of the episode is also available for those who prefer to read rather than listen – a continuing trend for the podcast which has been repeated with every previous episode in both seasons, including the Star Wars special.
