Dave Filoni of Star Wars: Ahsoka, The Mandalorian and The Clone Wars has been announced as the new Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm.
After bringing animated characters to live action in Star Wars: Ahsoka and working on The Mandalorian, Dave Filoni has been made the new Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm, reports Vanity Fair.
For context, this is what Kevin Feige is at Marvel Studios and Dave's responsibilities may be similar, but for the Star Wars universe. This reportedly includes involving him earlier in the development process and in a more expansive capacity than he was previously.
“Now I’m what’s called chief creative officer of Lucasfilm,” explains Filoni. “In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways.
“In this new role, it’s opened up to basically everything that’s going on. When we’re planning the future of what we’re doing now, I’m involved at the inception phase."
Considering the massive effect Ahsoka's finale could have on the wider Star Wars universe, the Mandalorian crossover movie that Filoni is currently working on and the reported success of Ahsoka on Disney+, this announcement isn't entirely surprising.
“I’m not telling people what to do,” Filoni clarifies. “But I do feel I’m trying to help them tell the best story that they want to tell. I need to be a help across the galaxy here, like a part of a Jedi Council almost.
“To truly help filmmakers, it was really important for me to experience it firsthand. I can also lend a perspective on the challenges that telling these stories will present. I feel more capable of actually being helpful outside of just saying what Jedi and Sith are like."
Exactly how this will change the future of the Star Wars universe has yet to be seen but things are changing in a galaxy far, far away – especially with three movies confirmed.
