Two more LEGO Ideas sets are officially winging their way to shelves

The results for 2022’s third LEGO Ideas Review have been announced, confirming which two sets will become official LEGO sets.

As announced in a blog post from the LEGO Ideas team, two more sets from the third review round of 2022 have been officially announced to join the fan-designed theme: Johnny Campbell’s Jaws and Damian Andres’ Cat. The two simply-named sets are now formally in the design process, having been selected from 35 project submissions that all gained 10,000 supporters.

For the first project, Jaws, the build depicts the terrifying shark, alongside a buildable boat and three minifigures to defend it against the enormous brick-built teeth.

“Johnny has managed to capture so many of the details that make the movie so iconic,” wrote the LEGO Ideas team. “It all perfectly captures the thrilling and suspenseful atmosphere of the classic blockbuster movie. It’s no wonder that this project gathered so much attention and support on LEGO Ideas.”

The second project, Cat, includes a LEGO (you guessed it) cat. The feline is a cross between a Siamese and a Birman, ready to tuck into a delicious bowl of cream to polish off the LEGO fish that it’s just devoured.

“To create this perfect-looking furry friend, Damian took inspiration from his real-life companion at home, which is a cross of a Siamese and a Birman,” wrote LEGO Ideas. “It’s clear to see these features in his final model which captures so many of the wonderful details of these cats.”

These two sets join nine others that are currently in development at the LEGO Group, all at different stages. The final sets may well be adapted from the original fan submissions from Johnny and Damian, so we won’t know for sure what they will look like, how big they will be, or how much they could potentially cost until we get news of the final design from the LEGO Ideas designers.

What’s more, LEGO Ideas has also confirmed that the approved sets from 2023’s first round of submissions will be announced in autumn of this year, where the LEGO Ideas review board will need to pick from a whopping 71 designs, setting a new record for the number of sets to achieve 10,000 supporters within one review round.
