What could the rumoured LEGO ‘Buffalo’ theme be?

Rumours and listings for a new LEGO theme codenamed ‘Buffalo’ suggest that it could be for a movie or series, which leaves plenty of potential.

A recent Instagram post pointed out some listings from Libreria El Laberinto for a mysterious LEGO theme codenamed ‘Buffalo’ and part of the listing suggests that it could be based on an intellectual property. These listings should be taken with ample caution until more is announced and there’s not a lot of information to go on at the time of writing.

Add to that the rumour that the theme is based on either a movie or a TV series and the possibilities are narrowed somewhat, but are undoubtedly still vast. Based on that rumour alone, this rules out LEGO Fortnite sets following the debut (and recent update) of the new mode in the popular game.

Considering that only two sets are listed for LEGO ‘Buffalo’ so far, it appears to be a small theme but with notably-sized sets reportedly at over 700 pieces each. One possibility is that this could be LEGO Project K (now known as Kalki 2898 AD), which was mentioned in a press release reportedly sent out for San Diego Comic-Con 2023. That’s currently scheduled to release on May 9, 2024, but considering the silence since then, it may not be the most likely possibility.

Looking at upcoming series and the LEGO Group’s history, Avatar: The Last Airbender’s upcoming live-action remake could see the return of the Nickelodeon property – which received a pair of sets based on the original animated series in 2006. Given that the live-action remake is only confirmed to be getting eight episodes on February 22, LEGO ‘Buffalo’ may be late to the marketing push, unless it’s launching surprisingly soon.

Continuing to look at upcoming series, the recent developments on Doctor Who and its upcoming season, including its new streaming home on Disney+, may put it in a good position for two decently-sized LEGO sets. Only releasing two models could make sense as it has been a while since a few Doctor Who entries in LEGO Dimensions and the original LEGO Ideas 21304 Doctor Who in 2015. A limited wave could avoid the risk of there being too many builds at once should be there low interest.

Ultimately, this is all speculative and nothing has been confirmed or can be concluded from everything rumoured and listed for LEGO ‘Buffalo’ so far. The same goes for ‘Bright’, which may not be licensed according to the listings. For now, the best strategy is to be patient and wait to see what could come of this theme, should it be coming at all.
