The LEGO Group and Volvo have teamed up once more to recreate a concept Technic model as a real vehicle, making this the first time that a set has inspired a real machine and not the other way around. Specifically, 42081 Volvo Concept Wheel Loader ZEUX has inspired the LX03 prototype.
“We need to transform the construction industry with smart and more sustainable solutions that will have an impact on a global scale,” said Melker Jernberg, President of Volvo Construction Equipment.
“The unveiling of the LX03 prototype today represents just that – and is a testament to the incredible expertise of our engineers and our united commitment towards positive change. Together with the LEGO Group, we are pushing the boundaries of both technology and imagination and the result is beyond anything the world has seen before.”
“Our two companies have enjoyed an extremely successful partnership over the years in which we have collaborated on several LEGO Technic models,” noted the LEGO Group’s Head of Product for LEGO Technic, Niels Henrik Horsted.”But this is the first time we are making a real machine based on a model and not the other way around – and that is what makes this a truly unique project.”
LEGO Technic 42081 Volvo Concept Wheel Loader ZEUX is now retired and the real machine isn’t commercially available, with engineers instead using it as a chance to learn more about what can be done in the future. However, LEGO Technic does have 42114 6×6 Volvo Articulated Hauler available now as a Volvo Construction Equipment build and you can find our in-depth review of it here.
