It’s beginning to feel a lot like 2020 as more LEGO sets sell out online

Remember the back end of 2020, when LEGO sets were continuously selling out and most of the best products were impossible to come by? Yeah, it looks like that’s happening again.

71043 Hogwarts Castle is the latest flagship model to sell out at LEGO.com in the UK, following a string of high-profile sets dropping out of stock over the past couple of weeks. Also on that list are the likes of 75192 Millennium Falcon, 21318 Tree House, 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay and 76139 1989 Batmobile, the latter two of which are due to retire this year.

It’s an ominous sign ahead of this month’s major shopping events – LEGO VIP WeekendBlack Friday and Cyber Monday – and suggests the LEGO Group may be facing the same inventory issues that hit the online store last year. And while several of those sets are still available (even if only on back order) in the US, plenty of others are unavailable stateside, including 10273 Haunted House and 10274 Ghostbusters ECTO-1.

Other retiring sets are already beginning to disappear from LEGO.com, meanwhile, as collectors snap up the last of the LEGO Group’s remaining inventory. 10264 Corner Garage was the latest to hit ‘sold out’ status in the UK and Europe yesterday, and likely won’t be coming back to the official online store at all.

The bottom line is that it’s probably going to be pretty difficult to plan out your Black Friday purchases this year, because there’s no guarantee the sets you’re after will be in stock. Fortunately, we can at least take some of the work out of it with both our stock alerts and our Black Friday page, where we’ll be publishing every single LEGO deal available later this month.

Why are sets selling out at LEGO.com?

In the run-up to Black Friday and Christmas, collectors are seemingly snapping up the LEGO Group’s biggest and best sets – many of which are temporarily out of stock. It’s difficult to say why exactly, but one reason could be concerns that those sets won’t be available later in the shopping season, in a vicious, self-fulfilling cycle of supply and demand.

Is 71043 Hogwarts Castle available to buy?

For the time being, LEGO Harry Potter 71043 Hogwarts Castle is temporarily out of stock in the UK and Europe. It can still be ordered in the US and Canada, but you’ll have to wait a little while for delivery.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
