LEGO 40450 Amelia Earhart Tribute takes off later today

Set your alarm: it’s almost time to fly high with the latest LEGO gift-with-purchase, 40450 Amelia Earhart Tribute, which launches later today.

The stunning ode to one of aviation’s greatest pioneers will go live at LEGO.com in the UK tonight, and based on previous GWPs, you may want to make sure you’re on the button as soon as it launches.

Last month’s Porsche owners’ pack, for example, disappeared roughly 30 minutes after it went on sale, leaving most early adopters of 10295 Porsche 911 square out of luck. If you don’t want to find yourself in the same boat for 40450 Amelia Earhart Tribute, you’ll probably need to be ready to shop at 11pm UK time.

That’s because the LEGO Group has recently revealed that it bundles the UK in with Europe for new product launches, meaning everything should go live at midnight Central European Time – or 11pm UK time, technically the day before release.

It’s probably a good idea to figure out what you want to buy ahead of time, then be ready at 11pm on the dot to place your order. There’s plenty to choose from at the moment, with dozens of new sets launching at LEGO.com earlier this week, and a remarkable number of the LEGO Group’s biggest and best sets – as marked by our Top 20 LEGO Sets List – available right now.

You’ll need to spend £100 / $100 / €100 to qualify for the freebie, which is timed very nicely with International Women’s Day on March 8, and is also very much worth your time. If stock does hold out, it will be available until March 14 at the very latest, but we can’t in all good conscience recommend waiting for this one if you do want it.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
