LEGO Classic Space 40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad revealed

A LEGO Certified Store has revealed the first images of an upcoming LEGO Classic Space gift-with-purchase, 40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad.

The LEGO Group hasn’t forgotten Classic Space as it shoots for the stars across countless themes in 2024, slapping space branding on City, Friends, DREAMZzz, Technic sets and more. Australian LEGO Certified Store Dreamworld has published the first image of the 325-piece 40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad, which will be available as a gift-with-purchase later this year.

Packing in four different micro-models scaled to the Spacebaby that first debuted in Collectible Minifigures 71037 Series 24 – seen here in both blue and, for the first time, white – the freebie tips its hat to a wide range of Classic Space sets, including 1979’s 920 Rocket Launchpad and 1980’s 6970 Beta I Command Base.

Details on its availability have yet to be confirmed, but Jay’s Brick Blog reports that the set will have a qualifying threshold of $320 in Australia. That means you’ll probably need to spend around £170 / $190 / €190 at LEGO.com or the LEGO Store in the UK, US and Europe respectively. Exactly when it will be available is less certain, but the timing of this reveal suggests it’s right around the corner.

40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad is only the latest in a string of nostalgia-fuelled gifts-with-purchase, which have so far included 40567 Forest Hideout, 40580 Blacktron Cruiser and 40601 Majisto’s Magical Workshop. It’s no surprise to see the LEGO Group diving back into the well of Classic Space in a year anchored around space exploration, though.

The current LEGO gift-with-purchase is 40679 Love Gift Box, which is available with orders above £70 / $75 / €75 through February 14. Head over to LEGO.com to secure yours.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
