This LEGO Ideas user is determined to make LEGO work again with latest 10K submission

A LEGO Ideas user behind multiple working models has brought a fourth functional build to the review stage, this time in the form of a unique public transportation system.

Baron von Barron’s Working Suspension Railway has taken just over two months to reach the next stop on the LEGO Ideas line, which in this case is the first 2024 review. It’s the builder’s fourth 10K project, and follows hot on the heels of their Working Log Flume and Working Canal Lock, both of which are currently being considered for production as part of the third 2023 review.

Their latest project brings to life a form of public transportation found in only a handful of cities around the world, including Wuhan, Memphis and Dresden: a suspension railway. “While some of them were constructed only in the last decades, the oldest one of them, the suspension railway Wuppertal, is over a hundred years old and still in use – truly impressive, at least if you ask me,” the builder says.

“That's why I came up with the idea of building a suspension railway that fits into LEGO City and also works like the other trains that we already have gotten so far, which means electrically powered and remotely controlled.” The final model fulfils that brief succinctly, packing in a fully-RC suspension train with an engine car, two passenger cars and a battery carrier car. It’s all operated by a standard LEGO train remote control.

The 2,999-piece model (that’s one element shy of LEGO Ideas’ limit, for those playing along at home) also includes a full suspension track with eight support beams, a central station with a bike shed, ticket machine and crank-operated elevator, a transformer station, four railway staff, four passengers and a smattering of animals.

Whether it’s the project that can finally make this fan designer’s dreams of another working LEGO Ideas model reality remains to be seen, but we’ll find out later this year when the LEGO Ideas review board announces the results of the first 2024 review.
