Take your LEGO boats up a level – literally

The latest LEGO Ideas 10K design can quite literally take your brick-built water adventures up a level, if it manages to become a real-life set.

Designed by Baron von Barron, the latest LEGO Ideas submission to gain 10,000 votes features a working mechanism that can raise brick-built boats up a level. This is a common sight for anyone who lives near a river, making it possible for boats to travel upstream through the use of a canal lock. Working Canal Lock is made up of just under 3,000 pieces, as well as four minifigures.

Not only does it work, but the set looks the part to, with a lockkeeper’s cottage, rubber dinghy, kayak, canoe, and rowing boat to add some more colour and storytelling to the build. All the clever mechanisms are hidden away within the brick-built rock, with one section exposed for functionality.

Everybody loves an interactive LEGO set that includes detailed functionality like this, but will it become a real LEGO Ideas set? Its fate now lies with the LEGO Ideas team, with it now going up against at least 18 other submissions in the final LEGO Ideas review of 2023. Here’s a reminder of all the sets to qualify so far.
