LEGO Phineas and Ferb is starting to feel inevitable

A LEGO Phineas and Ferb set is starting to feel increasingly inevitable, as three different LEGO Ideas projects based on the animated series have now cracked the review stage in a little over four months.

Fifteen-year-old builder Greygo’s Phineas and Ferb! has rocketed to 10,000 votes on the crowdsourcing platform in less than two months, and will now be considered for production as part of the third 2023 review. They originally submitted their concept for the main characters’ house in 2020, only to see it fizzle out with fewer than 2,000 votes. Their finetuned version – which rocks in at 2,999 pieces, one under the threshold for LEGO Ideas – has fared much better.

That’s off the back of two previous LEGO Phineas and Ferb projects that are currently part of the second 2023 review, both tackling the Disney XD series in different ways. Inevitable brick’s pitch realises Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated as a modular building, complete with the family’s antiques shop on the side, while DragonBuilder22’s project includes a giant brick-built Perry the Platypus and minifigures with brick-built heads.

The LEGO Group now has three different directions to choose from for a Phineas and Ferb set, should the review board decide this IP is a solid fit for the company. The mass of support through the platform would certainly suggest as much – and the fact the show is returning for two new seasons, with 40 episodes total, may be enough to convince those with the final say that the timing is right, too.

With such radically different concepts on the table, the LEGO Ideas team also wouldn’t need to worry about choosing who to credit for a Phineas and Ferb set. That may be the dilemma they’re currently facing in the second 2023 review, which has no fewer than four conceptually-similar Taylor Swift sets in contention to become a future set. (There are no guarantees even one of those will pass review.)

We’ll find out for sure whether LEGO Phineas and Ferb really is inevitable with the results of the second and third 2023 reviews, which will be announced in 2024. For now, here’s a recap of every LEGO Ideas project in the current review stage, which closes at the beginning of January.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
