LEGO Indiana Jones 18+ set rumoured for 2023

The rumoured return of LEGO Indiana Jones in 2023 will apparently be headlined by an 18+ set that’s thought to include over 1,500 pieces.

Whispers of the whip-cracking adventurer returning to the LEGO line-up have been floating around for a while, with rumoured details of at least eight sets arriving in 2023 – the first three of which will reportedly revisit key moments from the original trilogy of movies, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade. Details on the remaining five have been few and far between, however – until now.

According to Instagram user lego_minecraft_goat, product number 77015 will carry an 18+ age recommendation, falling in line with bigger sets across other licensed themes like Star Wars, Harry Potter and Marvel. It’s also said to contain 1,545 pieces, which is 616 more than the current biggest LEGO Indiana Jones set, 2008’s 7627 Temple of the Crystal Skull.

There’s no word yet on which Indy movie the set will be based on, but given the other three retro sets rumoured so far each call back to a film from the original trilogy, there’s every chance 77015 could take inspiration from the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. With one eye on the mixed reception to the fourth instalment in the saga, though, the safe money is on an 18+ set that taps into the nostalgia of the first three movies.

Instagram user exabrickslegogo_ reports the 1,545-piece LEGO Indiana Jones set will retail for $169.99 in the US, which would also make it the most expensive set in the theme to date. We don’t have prices for the remaining four sets, but they’re thought to be based on Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which is due to hit cinemas in June (and is the catalyst for resurrecting the LEGO theme).

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
