BrickLink has responded to LEGO fans’ requests to be given a second chance to buy the Designer Program sets from Round 1.
Almost a week after the first week of crowdfunding opened, BrickLink has confirmed that there will be another opportunity to buy most of the BrickLink Designer Program sets. Notably, however, this will not include the highly coveted 910001 The Castle in the Forest.
The number of potential orders for the other sets will increase to 10,000 per set. For 910001 The Castle in the Forest, a glitch in the website meant that 10,000 pre-orders went through, instead of the intended limit of just 5,000. To compensate, BrickLink and the LEGO Group are offering 5,000 more pre-orders for the other four successful sets.
It’s important to note as well that increasing production will delay shipping and the planned further rounds of crowdfunding. With a double production run, the additional 5,000 sets for Round 1 will be shipped in June 2022, as opposed to the original plan of January 2022.
However, this does not address the complaints of many LEGO fans that 910001 The Castle in the Forest sold out too quickly, as it’s unlikely anyone else will be able to buy this set in future. There is also little hope, based on comments from BrickLink and the LEGO Group, that instructions will become widely available so that builders can create the popular model themselves.
The 10,000 pre-order limit will apply to future rounds of crowdfunding as well, to cope with the higher-than-anticipated levels of interest in the Designer Program. Concerns around secondhand selling of sets from Round 1 have also been addressed, which you can read about in full here.
