Taylor Swift is taking over LEGO Ideas as yet another Lover House reaches 10K

Yet another LEGO Ideas project based on Taylor Swift’s Lover music video has reached the review stage – and two more are still gunning for 10,000 votes.

Described by one ambitious writer as ‘the most powerful military force on the planet’, Taylor Swift’s fans – better known as Swifties – are seemingly determined to get some kind of LEGO representation for the global pop star. Or rather, one very specific kind of representation: a LEGO set based on the house from the Lover music video.

Taylor Swift’s Lover House by donnydings is the fourth LEGO Ideas project inspired by the clip to reach the review stage – and the second this week alone – with at least two more rapidly approaching the necessary 10,000 votes to be considered for production by the LEGO Group. The qualifying window for the current review doesn’t close until September, so chances are good both of those projects will make the grade this time too.

We’ve seen multiple submissions repeating identical concepts within the same review phase as recently as the first 2023 review, where two projects inspired by Shrek’s swamp are battling it out to get the green light. But four incredibly similar projects in a single review would be unprecedented, and surely the impetus the LEGO Group needs to press on and produce it.

The same question would inevitably arise as it has with Shrek, however: if the LEGO Group did approve one of those Lover houses, how would it decide which builder to credit? In this case, it might have an easy solution at hand, because another Lover House project is currently being considered in the first 2023 review.

This glut of projects reaching the second 2023 review might just be enough to convince the LEGO Ideas team to green-light Lucy33’s project, bypassing the need to potentially compensate up to four different creators. So, Swifties may eventually get their LEGO set – even if it’s not the specific interpretation of the house they’ve voted for here.

The LEGO Ideas theme can be unpredictable at the best of times, so there are no guarantees any of that will come to pass. In fact, the decision to approve or reject a Taylor Swift LEGO set could well be influenced by the performance of this year’s 21339 BTS Dynamite, which is based on arguably the only band that can rival Swift’s fanbase in size.

We’ll find out one way or the other later this year, as the first 2023 review results should drop sometime in October. The second 2023 review now includes 24 projects in total, with the results of this one expected in early 2024.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
