More details confirm release date on LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets

As the newly-announced LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets speed onto the official LEGO website, we now know release dates for all four builds.

In a shock announcement, four new LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets have been announced, all priced between £24.99 and £94.99. What’s more, officially listings have now confirmed the release dates for all four sets, becoming available to buy from August 1, 2023. This means there are a few more months to wait, with time enough to possibly plug the set number gap in the line-up.

Plus, EU prices have been confirmed for all four, with Euro prices sitting squarely between the American and sterling ones. Here’s a closer look at each set, as well as confirmed prices and release dates at the end of the article.

76990 Sonic’s Speed Sphere Challenge

The smallest from the wave, 76990 Sonic’s Speed Sphere Challenge sees the Blue Blur himself zipping across an interactive, brick-built course as he defeats the Moto bug Badnik and sets his tiny Flicky pal free. In a separate element, Sonic can then kick back and relax under an umbrella after his hard work.

There looks to be plenty of play opportunities here, from the speed sphere and launcher itself to the various play accessories that Sonic fans of all ages can enjoy.

76991 Tails’ Workshop and Tornado Plane

Next up is another fast-paced set, with a buildable Tornado plane that you can use to collect rings and battle the flying Badnik Buzz Bomber. Along with Tails and Sonic, the set also includes a Clucky for you to rescue, as well as the Buzz Bomber of course.

The iconic rings are balanced on transparent rods to create the illusion of floating in the air, so you can create your own daring course that you’ll need to fly through in order to complete the challenge. After that, there are various accessories for Sonic and Tails to conduct research and make repairs to the plane with, meaning 76991 Tails’ Workshop and Tornado Plane works well for both play and display.

76992 Amy’s Animal Rescue Island

Introducing still more Sonic characters, we now see Amy, Tails, Crabmeat, Picky, Pocky and a Flicky join the theme, with buildable sections that allow for the figures to slide into the pool, build sandcastles, or enjoy the merry-go-round. There’s less interactive options here, although there’s still a moving drawbridge and a waterfall trap to catch the evil Badnik.

As one of the larger sets, this is the first to be one complete build (with accessories) rather than smaller elements build separately.

76994 Green Hill Zone Loop Challenge

The ultimate challenge comes in the form of the largest LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog set so far revealed in this wave: 76994 Green Hill Zone Loop Challenge. There are more play options than any other set, from the speed sphere and launcher to propel Sonic across the course to the loop-de-loop and ring that he needs to be aiming for.

There’s also Dr. Eggman’s mech for Sonic to knock off, in turn releasing the animals trapped inside. As well as Sonic, there are plenty of other characters to fill out this sprawling set, including Amy, a Flicky, Becky, Pocky, Pecky, Dr. Eggman, as well as Badniks Chopper and Newtron.
