LEGO July 2023 buyers’ guide – Pirates, Ideas, Disney and more

From Disney and Ideas to Pirates and a tantalising gift-with-purchase, here’s everything you need to know about all the new LEGO releases for July 2023.

July is relatively quiet for new LEGO launches… unless you’re into Disney, Ideas or retro sets, in which case your LEGO budget is about to take a big (but worthy) hit. And if you’re into all three? Erm, good luck. The good news is that there are two gifts-with-purchase available from July 1 to sweeten the deal, and don’t forget that you’ll also earn VIP points back on everything you buy at LEGO.com.

You’ll need to be signed up to the VIP program to buy any or all of July’s three headline sets during their early access periods, which we’ve outlined along with each set below. Dive into everything in store for July, and start budgeting now: there isn’t a dud among the pack…

Release date: July 1 (VIPs), July 4 (wide), 2023 LEGO: Order now

71040 The Disney Castle finally left shelves after six long years in 2022, only for the LEGO Group to turn right around and release a new and improved version in July this year. 43222 Disney Castle builds on its predecessor in all the right ways, from its attractive new colour scheme to its way more accomplished towers. The minifigure selection – seven of eight of its characters are brand new here – is just the cherry on top.

21341 Disney Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage

Theme: LEGO Ideas Price: £199.99 / $229.99 / €229.99 Pieces: 2,316 Minifigures: 6

Release date: July 1 (VIPs), July 4 (wide), 2023 Review: Read now LEGO: Order now

Potentially the sleeper hit of 2023, 21341 Disney Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage delivers on two fronts: it’s the perfect set for fans of the cult classic Halloween movie (launching in July, just like the film did in 1993 – fingers crossed the model doesn’t bomb like its source material did, hey), but also for history buffs looking for a companion piece for 21325 Medieval Blacksmith. Look a little closer and there’s a lot to enjoy here.

10320 Eldorado Fortress

Theme: LEGO Icons Price: £189.99 / $214.99 / €214.99 Pieces: 2,509 Minifigures: 8

Release date: July 4 (VIPs), July 7 (wide), 2023 Review: Read now LEGO: Order now

Available from next week is 10320 Eldorado Fortress, a modern reimagining of the 1989 classic 6276 Eldorado Fortress. Visualising what that vintage LEGO Pirates set might look like if it was designed in 2023, the LEGO Icons remake features a brick-built raised base, six bluecoat soldiers, two pirates and even throws in a merchant ship from 6277 Imperial Trading Post. Check out our review to see why this is treasure that doesn’t deserve to be buried…

40600 Disney 100 Years Celebration

Theme: LEGO Disney Pieces: 226 Minifigures: 1 Review: Read now

Availability: Free with Disney spends over £95 / $100 / €100 Offer period: July 1 to 9, 2023

Wouldn’t you know it: the first confirmed LEGO gift-with-purchase for July 2023 is 40600 Disney 100 Years Celebration, which will be available from July 1 to 9 by spending at least £95 / $100 / €100 on LEGO Disney sets (so yes, 43222 Disney Castle automatically qualifies). The 226-piece model includes a unique Mickey Mouse minifigure, a light brick and even space to display your favourite Disney-themed photos.

40594 Houses of the World 3

Theme: Exclusives Pieces: TBC Minifigures: 0 Review: Read now

Availability: TBC Offer period: TBC

Also available sometime in July is 40594 Houses of the World 3, a tiny modular building that looks to take inspiration from Swiss architecture to fashion a mountainside lodge. If it’s matching the first and second sets in this line, it should be free with purchases above £220 / $250 / €250, although that figure and the specific release date have yet to be confirmed.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

I’m looking forward to the latest houses of the world edition. It doesn’t seem to be available yet in the UK.
