Toys R Us recreates Macy’s Parade float in LEGO form

Famous toy retailer Toys R Us has a presence at this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – and has built a LEGO version of its float in honour of the occasion.

For Americans, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a long-established holiday tradition. Dating back to 1924, the parade is organised by department store brand Macy’s. It takes place each year on the morning of Thanksgiving Day, and famously plays host to various pop culture icons. Examples from the last few years (who appear as giant balloons) include Nickelodeon’s Spongebob Squarepants, Star Wars’ Grogu, and Australian cartoon character Bluey – who recently shot to a Review Stage on the LEGO Ideas site.

There will also be 28 floats in this year’s parade, with Toys R Us appearing on one of them. A recent video on the retailer’s Twitter account gives us a peek at the design, albeit with a LEGO twist. The float features familiar LEGO creations such as a car, a panda bear and a dinosaur, with almost 30 hours of design time and over 2,300 bricks used in the model.

While it might seem like an unusual move, LEGO and Toys R Us have a long history together. The retailer has recently collaborated with Macy’s for a LEGO Day event, and a wide range of promotional items have been exclusively available at the retailer. The upcoming Pirate Adventure Ride promotional item originally appeared at Toys R Us earlier this year, and a few LEGO sets have even carried official Toys R Us branding – with mascot Geoffrey appearing in LEGO form on one or two occasions.

The real Toys R Us parade float can be seen in the parade tomorrow, which starts at 9am local time, People outside the US should (if previous years are any indication) be able to find parade footage on YouTube once the parade is over.

Was “ Shake your money maker “ an inappropriate song for a children’s float ?

Oh yeah, it was – and I’m pretty much a ‘live and let live’ kind of person. I was disappointed that this appeared on a Lego float.
