The latest LEGO Ideas project to reach 10,000 votes – and enter consideration to become an official set – brings together a charming cross-section of nature, photography and classic cars.
Originally designed by LEGO Ideas member Nick Micheels (or LobsterThermidor) for a contest, The Landscape Photographer has racked up 10,000 votes on the crowdsourcing platform in a shade under three months. It’s Micheels’ second 10K project following Twilight: Cullen House, which is currently being considered for production as part of the first 2023 review.
[bdproduct search='ideas' sort='discount' numberOfRecord='4' brand='' sliderMinValues='0' sliderMaxValues='750']The Landscape Photographer pays homage to legendary shutterbug Ansel Adams, recreating the retro station wagon on which the American photographer perched while shooting Yosemite National Park. The base of the build includes foliage native to the Californian mountains, such as whiteleaf manzanita, yellow monkeyflower and a towering ponderosa pine tree.
Its only minifigure is accompanied by a brick-built 8x10 large-format camera, and Micheels draws parallels between landscape photography and building with LEGO to sell the idea, describing them both as ‘a process of organising pre-established and often seemingly disparate shapes into a cohesive and aesthetically harmonious form’.
That’s clearly proved motivation enough for the LEGO Ideas community to get behind the build, but whether it actually makes it to shelves is now up to the LEGO Group. The Landscape Photographer is the 33rd project in the second 2023 review, and we’ll likely find out the results of this round in early 2024.
