LEGO Creator 31124 Super Robot gets mecha makeover thanks to designer

The recently launched 31124 Super Robot has inspired a LEGO designer to give the Creator model a makeover that pays homage to its roots.

31124 Super Robot, designed by James May and George Gilliatt, has received a makeover reminiscent of its mecha inspiration by fellow designer Atticus Tsai-McCarthy, who worked on the upcoming 76956 T. rex Breakout.

Known as Atticus T-Mac on Twitter, the designer and artist shared his idea of what the model would look like animated with pilots that seem to be inspired by James May and George Gilliatt, commenting that the set can spark anyone’s creativity.

The artwork depicts the build as if it was in an animated show, with details from the horns to the light blue curved pieces used as integral aspects of the mech’s design. Those of you familiar with mecha source material may find it almost indistinguishable from the classic and modern shows.

A second tweet highlight individual elements of the artwork such as the pair of pilots and the Super Robot itself. 31124 Super Robot is one of seven new sets available on the official online store as of March 1, including an inexpensive Vespa recreation.

Mechs and robots are a regular part of the LEGO Group’s catalogue, and LEGO NINJAGO’s 2022 range includes a set that combines multiple vehicles into one larger robotic suit of armour. An upcoming Marvel set is even mixing mechs and monsters in a double pack later this year.
