LEGO Harry Potter 40598 Gringotts Vault gift-with-purchase review

LEGO Harry Potter 40598 Gringotts Vault is one of the cleverest and most accessible gift-with-purchase sets to come out of the LEGO Group, probably ever.

Available from September 1 to 10, or while stocks last, 40598 Gringotts Vault is a gift-with-purchase being given away with LEGO Harry Potter purchases of £115 / $130 / €130 in LEGO stores and at LEGO.com.

Coming in at a relatively low qualifying spend, what is on offer is a fully-fledged LEGO Harry Potter set, in a size of box equivalent to a typical £20 LEGO set, complete with a build and sticker sheet spread across four numbered bags. What’s more, the design expertise that has gone into capturing a small vault from inside Gringotts stands at the same exact level of detail and authenticity as can be seen in 40598 Gringotts Vault’s bigger sister set, 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition. That same mix of colours, the same smart build techniques, the same functionality and that same final, credible all-round model are all present in the little GWP just as they are in the large Collectors’ Edition set.

For much less money and without having to actually purchase the behemoth set that this is purposefully designed to connect to, 40598 Gringotts Vault offers a fantastic model all by itself, and certainly on a par with any of the smaller LEGO Harry Potter sets you may be purchasing so as to qualify for this GWP. And for those who find 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition simply out of their budget right now, here’s a just-as-authentic little taste of the same exact thing.

Indeed, the LEGO Group knows exactly what it is doing in offering up this delicious morsel of LEGO Harry Potter goodness, and at this much lower qualifying spend, because building 40598 Gringotts Vault and enjoying all the intricacy and playability that it so neatly offers only serves to perfectly whet the appetite for the much more expensive 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition.

And for those picking up 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition on release day, here stands an extra freebie that directly connects to the giant set to add a fourth vault to the already massive underside of the model.

It’s very smart, very simple marketing that adds value to the experience for those picking up the larger scale set on release day and gives a taste of what’s great about it to those making smaller purchases at the same time. And the fact that the gift-with-purchase is open to all LEGO Harry Potter purchases is what’s key to this working.

Providing stock levels last, LEGO Harry Potter fans now have 10 days to collect this added extra even if they don’t yet have the money or inclination to pick up the gigantic 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition. If they then one day want to pick up the bigger set, they’ve not missed out on that final piece to the display. And if they don’t want it, then 40598 Gringotts Vault is still so well designed that it sits quite perfectly as its own little LEGO Harry Potter set all the same.

This is a LEGO gift-with-purchase promotion done right and we can only hope that future GWPs linked to bigger sets follow the same more accessible and just-as-enjoyable model.

40598 Gringotts Vault is available with LEGO Harry Potter purchases of  £115 / $130 / €130 in LEGO stores and at LEGO.com, from September 1 to 10, or while stocks last.
