LEGO Wreck-It Ralph stomps to Ideas review stage for a belated anniversary

The latest LEGO Ideas project to crack the 10K barrier celebrates the belated anniversary of Disney animated movie Wreck-It Ralph.

Try not to wither into dust as Vaicko’s Wreck-It Ralph 10th Anniversary build enters the third 2023 review, reminding us all that it’s actually now been 11 years since the animated film debuted in cinemas. The LEGO Ideas project has taken roughly 18 months to rack up 10,000 votes, so while it was very timely for Wreck-It Ralph’s 10th birthday when originally submitted, it’s now missed that neat anniversary by some distance.

Still, if the LEGO Group gives the 2,879-piece build the green light, it could make it on to shelves in time for the movie’s 13th anniversary. The model recreates the apartment building from Fix-It Felix, Jr., the game in which Wreck-It Ralph plays the antagonist, and stuffs it with countless references and characters from the 2012 movie. It can also be built in two different ways: with Wreck-It Ralph breaking the windows, or Felix having repaired them.

The entire leading cast is included in the pitch, from a brick-built Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz to Fix-It Felix and Sergeant Calhoun. There are also minifigure-scale arcade machines, Vanellope’s candy car and plenty of other Easter eggs to spot throughout the build. Whether you’ll ever actually be able to piece together Vaicko’s project for yourself now depends on the LEGO Ideas review board, who must decide whether to bring it to shelves.

We’ll likely find out their decision around summer 2024. For now, Wreck-It Ralph 10th Anniversary joins a growing list of projects in the third 2023 review, the qualifying window for which closes at the end of the year.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
