Bob Ross painting build would be right at home in LEGO Ideas

The latest project in the first 2025 LEGO Ideas review depicts an iconic Bob Ross painting and it would be right at home in theme and portfolio.

Econombricks has earned a spot in the first 2025 LEGO Ideas review with their Bob Ross submission based on his iconic Mountain Reflections painting from The Joy of Painting Season 12. The project depicts this painting alongside a two-inch brush, a fan brush and a palette knife and even proposes a minifigure of the artist.

The user notes that they’ve been inspired by 21333 Vincent van Gogh – The Starry Night and 31208 Hokusai – The Great Wave, the former of which also includes an artist minifigure and utilises a similar 3D building style.

While it has not yet been approved for an official LEGO Ideas set, there’s no doubt that this is a perfect project for the theme, perhaps more so than the last Bob Ross submission that is currently in review.

As well as 21333 Vincent van Gogh – The Starry Night and 31208 Hokusai – The Great Wave, this model would pair well with the upcoming 31215 Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers. For now though, it’s up against 16 other models in the first 2025 LEGO Ideas review for a chance at being transformed into a future set.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.

I mentioned it when the Bob Ross ideas hit 10k and was sent to review, I want a Bob Ross set more than anything. Bob Ross got me into painting.

It would also be an amazing way for LEGO to advertise the ending of using oils in their brick making process. “Although this is a beautiful oil painting our bricks no longer have oil” or just explain how removing the oil makes for a cleaner and more beautiful environment like the ones Mr. Ross painted.

I really hope we get a Bob Ross Lego Ideas set, I’d happily but it.

It’s a lovely design, truly, with great shaping and depth. But…but what if a Bob Ross build was as much about the builder following the spirit of the build, rather than the instructions? When you watch Bob Ross, even if you’re trying to copy his painting stroke fostroke, you’re still making it yours in a way that following Lego instructions brick for brick won’t. There are fewer opportunities for stylistic choices, make-dos, or lower experience or skill levels creating happy little accidents.
This is a truly lovely piece, though.

(Outside of Lego, if you can imagine such a thing, YouTube’s preeminent Bob Ross impersonator Jazza put out a video on turning a Bob Ross tutorial into a 3D installation last week. Worth a look.)
