Case for LEGO Peter Rabbit strengthens as second Ideas project bounces through to review

The case for a LEGO Peter Rabbit set has just solidified a little bit further thanks to a second LEGO Ideas project based on Beatrix Potter’s stories reaching the review stage.

21326 Winnie the Pooh fan designer Ben Alder has already brought the classic children’s books to the attention of the LEGO Group (and the wider Ideas community) in the third 2024 review, and fellow fan designer Chelmade has now bolstered support for a Peter Rabbit set by taking a similar project to the first 2025 review. Peter Rabbit and the Garden is a bigger and more detailed take on the woodland creatures and characters, coming in at 4,600 pieces.

That might push it past what the LEGO Group would see as commercially viable for such a set given its relatively niche subject matter, but there’s no denying that the proposed model feels authentic to the world crafted by Beatrix Potter at the turn of the 20th century. “I looked into the time period in which this was written and chose the colour scheme and style to fit the 1900’s instead of basing it on the modern-day movie version,” Chelmade explains on the project page.

“It’s easy to imagine this in my display cupboard (because it’s actually there)! And my kids kept begging me to play with it. They liked taking the plants and making their own unique gardens for the animals to play in. There are added playability factors with removable walls to access the small buildings (which also pop off the main build), slides to travel through the burrow, and three plants to knock over!”

Chelmade says they built the model with physical pieces first to ensure its structural integrity and feasibility, then transferred it into BrickLink Studio before uploading to LEGO Ideas. The LEGO Group is currently reviewing Ben Alder’s Peter Rabbit project as part of the third 2024 review, the results of which will be announced later this year – and which will likely inform whether Chelmade’s project has a shot at success.

If the LEGO Ideas review board gives Ben’s project the green light, this will be the end of the road for Chelmade. But if it doesn’t get picked up, there’s still a chance that this larger submission could make the cut – whether for its timing or its particular approach to Peter Rabbit. For now, check out every set in the first 2025 review in the table below. The qualification period for this review closes in May.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
