Every new LEGO set rumoured for 2022 so far – April update

A new LEGO castle, a potential new direction for the LEGO Art theme and word on the next Ideas launch headline this month’s update to the list of rumoured sets for 2022.

Whether you’re only just recovering from the March releases or are midway through building 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine, there’s always something new to look forward to in the LEGO calendar – and the next few months are shaping up to be genuinely exciting, from a mooted partnership with Hasbro to the possible debut of a brand new theme in LEGO Avatar.

If you’re after a reminder of everything rumoured to be coming our way this year – from Speed Champions cars based on movie franchises to the first LEGO Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows set – keep reading. But remember, nothing here is confirmed until the LEGO Group says so.

This year’s LEGO Creator Expert line-up just got a little bigger with 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine, but there’s still plenty to come – including the 90th anniversary set, which is said to be an enormous ode to LEGO Castle. The rumoured LEGO Optimus Prime, meanwhile, is now believed to launch in June rather than May.

10302 Optimus Prime – 1,508 pieces, €169.99
10303 Roller Coaster – $359.99
10305 Lion King’s Castle – €349.99
10307 Eiffel Tower – €629.99
10311 Orchid – $49.99

LEGO Avatar

It’s been rumoured on and off for a little while, and at one point was said to arrive in April, but the latest reports suggest that James Cameron’s Avatar is indeed the licence currently codenamed Coconut. At least four LEGO sets are slated to arrive on shelves in October, ahead of Avatar 2 arriving in cinemas in December.

75571 – 560 pieces, $39.99 / €39.99
75572 – 572 pieces, $59.99 / €54.99
75573 – 887 pieces, $89.99 / €89.99
75574 – 1,212 pieces, $139.99 / €139.99

LEGO Architecture

Still reeling from the fact you’ll basically never complete your LEGO Architecture collection with the arrival of the employee-exclusive 4000038 LEGO Campus? You’ll at least be able to soothe those wounds come summer, with a mysterious monuments set rumoured to be on the cards…

21058 Monuments of the World – 1,476 pieces, $129.99

LEGO Art

Two more LEGO Art sets are said to be coming this summer, and they’re both intriguing for completely different reasons. The Rolling Stones set includes fewer pieces than necessary to fill a standard 48×48-stud grid – but has an inflated price tag – while the MoMA model goes the opposite direction, with a lot of parts for comparatively little cash. Could we be looking at something other than mosaics?

31206 The Rolling Stones – 1,998 pieces, $149.99
31207 The Museum of Modern Art – 2,780 pieces, $79.99

LEGO CITY

Another month passes, and we’re another month closer to the sad truth that we probably aren’t going to get any goats in this summer’s rumoured LEGO CITY farm sets. But hey, there are plenty of other animals on the cards, including some newbies, so it’s nothing to feel too despondent about. A new train and more Stuntz sets will apparently fill out the rest of 2022.

60331 Stunt Bike: Road – 10 pieces
60332 Stunt Bike: Fearless Scorpion – 15 pieces
60333 Stunt Bike: Bathtub – 14 pieces

60338 Acrobatic Curl: Devastating Chimp – 226 pieces
60339 Double Loop Stunt Track –598 pieces
60340 Stunt Challenge: Swords – 154 pieces
60341 Stunt Challenge: Takedown – 117 pieces
60342 Stunt Challenge: Shark Attack – 122 pieces
60344 Hen House – 101 pieces
60345 Farmer’s Market Van – 310 pieces

60353 Wild Animal Rescue Missions – 246 pieces
60354 Mars Space Exploration Missions – 298 pieces
60355 Water Police Investigation Missions – 278 pieces

LEGO Collectible Minifigures

The rest of this year’s blind-bagged Collectible Minifigures are still said to consist of another in-house series – following 71032 Series 22 – and The Muppets. That’s an unusual turn of events, given we usually get one in-house and two licensed series per year, but it could be that Series 23 is tied to the LEGO Group’s 90th anniversary.

71033 The Muppets
71034 Series 23 – September 1
71035 The Muppets Six-Pack
71036 Series 23 Six Pack

LEGO Disney

Still the most exciting Disney set reportedly landing later this year is 40521 Mini Disney The Haunted Mansion, which sounds like a follow-up to last year’s 40478 Mini Disney Castle. Sign us up for an entire subtheme of microscale Disney Parks attractions. The other three sets on this list are apparently more Mickey and Friends models.

10777 TBC – 103 pieces
10778 TBC – 184 pieces
10780 TBC – 215 pieces

LEGO Harry Potter

We’ve finally got the first word on what to expect from this summer’s LEGO Harry Potter sets, and it sounds like we’re in store for another eclectic mix of models – including what may be the first set based on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. There’s also another couple of additions to the new modular Hogwarts on the cards, along with a heavily-requested return to the Shrieking Shack.

76400 Hogwarts Carriage with Thestrals – 121 pieces, $19.99 / €19.99
76401 Hogwarts: Sirius’s Rescue – 345 pieces, $49.99 / €49.99

76407 Shrieking Shack – 777 pieces, $89.99 / €89.99
76408 TBC – $119.99 / €119.99

LEGO Ideas

There’s little mystery behind LEGO Ideas, given the crowdsourcing platform announces its sets well in advance. But the precise details of those sets – including the order in which they’ll arrive, their prices and piece counts – are harder to predict. For now, Truman Cheng’s three-dimensional take on van Gogh’s two-dimensional artwork is rumoured to be next in line…

21333 Vincent van Gogh: A Starry Night – $159.99

LEGO Marvel / LEGO DC

We’ve grouped together Marvel and DC as the vague branding of the superhero theme makes it tricky to determine which product numbers fall on which side of the coin, but there are a few sets that are obviously one or the other. Namely which are Marvel, anyway, because so far we’ve got zero word on any more DC sets for 2022. There must surely be some coming, though…

76210 Hulkbuster – ~2,500 pieces, $299.99
76215 TBC – $499.99
76216 Iron Man 2 Workshop – 496 pieces, €89.99
76217 Baby Groot – 476 pieces, €49.99
76218 Sanctum Sanctorum – 2,708 pieces, $209.99
76220 TBC – 43 pieces
76221 TBC – 456 pieces
76225 TBC
76226 TBC
76231 Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar – $44.99

LEGO NINJAGO

A total of nine LEGO NINJAGO sets are still said to be coming our way this summer, in a wave that seemingly revolves around crystals. Could the ninja be getting into new age medicine? Or are these sets simply a nod and a wink to Rock Raiders? Either way, colour us intrigued.

71759 Dragon Temple – 161 pieces, $39.99
71768 Jay’s Golden Dragon Motorbike – 137 pieces, $19.99
71769 Cole’s Dragon Racer – 384 pieces, $39.99

71773 Kai’s Gold Dragon Raider – 624 pieces, $89.99
71774 Lloyd’s Ultra Gold Dragon – 989 pieces, $139.99
71775 Nya’s Samurai X Mech – 1,003 pieces, $119.99

LEGO Speed Champions

The latest wave of eight-studs-wide Speed Champions cars has just raced on to store shelves, but in a shock turn of events, they apparently won’t be the theme’s only sets in 2022. What’s traditionally been a once-per-year range looks set to expand in 2022, bringing us at least three more cars later this year – and the first based on specific movie franchises.

76911 Aston Martin DB5
76912 1970 Dodge Charger
76913 TBC

LEGO Star Wars

The reveal of the new LEGO Star Wars Diorama Collection and 75342 Republic Fighter Tank have shortened the list of rumoured LEGO Star Wars sets considerably for April, but no matter: there’s still plenty in store, including – apparently – two sets based on the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series.

40547 Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader – $19.99
75323 Cad Bane’s Ship – 1,022 pieces, €159.99
75331 TBC – $529.99
75332 AT-ST – 87 pieces, €29.99 / $29.99
75333 Jedi Starfighter – 282 pieces, €29.99 / $29.99
75334 [Obi-Wan Kenobi]  – 408 pieces, €49.99 / $49.99

75336 [Obi-Wan Kenobi] – 924 pieces, $99.99

75340 Star Wars Advent Calendar – 329 pieces, €34.99 / $44.99
75341 Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder – €199.99

LEGO Stranger Things

Vague whisperings of more LEGO Stranger Things sets originally emerged last year, and since then the LEGO Group has proven it still has the keys to Netflix’s hit series with 40549 Demogorgon & Eleven and 854197 Demogorgon Keyring. And now that Season 4 has a firm release date, here’s hoping we see a true follow-up to 75810 The Upside Down sooner rather than later.

LEGO Technic

Image: Ferrari

We’ve finally got some inkling of what this year’s rumoured LEGO Technic supercar will be, and Ferrari fans should be happy. Or, more specifically, Ferrari Daytona SP3 fans, because that’s what the potentially-delayed model is said to depict. The second half of 2022 is shaping up to be an expensive one for Technic fans either way…

42143 Ferrari Daytona SP3 – 3,776 pieces, $399.99 / €399.99
42144 Waste Handler – 835 pieces, $139.99 / €99.99
42145 Airbus H175 Rescue Helicopter – 2,001 pieces, $199.99 / €199.99
42146 Liebherr LR 13000 – 2,882 pieces, $599.99 / €449.99

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
