LEGO Ideas welcomes a Blockbuster blast from the past

Fan of retro movie viewing will have no problems understanding why Blockbuster has just hit the 10K mark in the second LEGO Ideas review of 2025.

Licensed properties being submitted to the LEGO Ideas program are certainly nothing new, with recent fans designs encompassing everything from TMNT and Futurama to Jumanji and Gilmore Girls. Now yet another familiar brand from the past has been recreated in brick-built form, but it might not be one you were expecting.

Blockbuster represents the handiwork of ThomasFV and should definitely bring a pang of nostalgia to the hearts of anyone who grew up in the late ‘80s, ‘90s or ‘00s. The video rental store was founded in Dallas in 1985 and soon became synonymous with home video rentals, before finally giving up the ghost for good in 2014.

The LEGO Ideas model celebrates the entertainment chain with a modular Blockbuster store, complete with a large parking lot for customers. The fan design also comes with the familiar Blockbuster sign, built to represent a movie ticket, as well as exterior dropboxes for customers to return their rentals.

Inside the Blockbuster store is a welcome mat and multiple aisles of LEGO VHS tapes organised by genre, as well as soft drinks, sweets and popcorn to purchase, plus a dedicated games section and two employee minifigures.

There’s certainly a lot to like about the LEGO Ideas submission, but we’ll have to wait until later in the year for now to see if Blockbuster will be checking out of the second review of 2025 or not.
