LEGO Ideas focuses on Functional Microscope as it hits 10K
Functional Microscope is the latest LEGO Ideas submission to hit the 10K supporters mark, with a detailed version of the real scientific instrument.
Fan submissions for the third LEGO Ideas review of 2024 have nearly reached 50 in total, with a flurry of designs joining the 10K club over the festive break. The latest model to make it to that figure is Functional Microscope, a 1,316-piece build created by Peter_Designs that attempts to emulate the look and practicality of the real-world scientific instrument.
Measuring 52cm tall, 15cm wide and 19cm deep, Functional Microscope is packed with handy features and intriguing building techniques. The LEGO Ideas model includes a working eyepiece, revolving nose section with three lenses and three levels of magnification (represented by images of a bacteria sample).
In addition, Functional Microscope also boasts fine and coarse image sharpness adjustment, a working light feature, detachable light condenser and much more. The designer states that the model is meant to be a fun build, one that also takes a deeper looking into the microscopic world.
The internal structure of Functional Microscope is supported by a variety of Technic pieces that allow for stability and for the model’s mechanisms to be concealed. The LEGO Ideas submission follows in the footsteps of LEGO Microscope, a design that made it into the third review of 2023, but no further.
We’ll have to wait to find out if Functional Microscope has what it takes to become a physical model at some point, but for now it joins 48 other current fan designs in the third LEGO Ideas review of 2024.
