Homage to vintage film takes off into LEGO Ideas Review
A vintage tower block has got the support of 10,000 people over on LEGO Ideas, in homage to a beloved 70s film.
Based on a sequence from the Italian comedy Fantozzi, released back in 1975, the sprawling model shows the main character, Ugo Fantozzi, trying to get his bus to fly. While he’s not successful, the scene is one of the funniest moments not just in this movie, but ‘in comedy history’, according to the creator of this set, Nastronauta, aka Giorgio.
This is the first of the Italian builder’s designs to make it to the review stage. It features a large block of flats in a vintage style, with dominant colours of light green and brown, with white and grey detailing. On the reverse of the facade, there are plenty of details to enjoy, with an open wall allowing you to see into family life in the block.
Despite only being three or four studs wide, each room has its own unique character and story to tell, in contrast to the uniform appearance of the front o the building. The bus itself has an opening door, so the minifigure inhabitants can easily get on and off the bus during its attempts to take off.
Whether Fantozzie Takes The Bus On The Fly makes it on LEGO shelves depends on how it fairs in the LEGO Ideas Review stage, going up against a total of 34 sets. Plus, more could still join them, as there’s still a couple of weeks to go until the qualifying window closes and the review begins. Here’s a list of all of them so far.
