Japanese Castle gains 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas

A LEGO model of a Japanese building has earned plenty of fans – and could become an official LEGO set in the future.

The LEGO Ideas theme contains a variety of LEGO sets that are all inspired by fan creations. In order for a LEGO fan to have a shot at official LEGO-hood, they must submit a LEGO creation on the LEGO Ideas site and gain 10,000 supporters. Doing so will enter the set into a review stage, and – following further scrutiny by the LEGO Group – turn it into an official product for wider release.

The latest LEGO set to qualify for a review stage is LEGOverwatch’s Japanese castle, which was reportedly inspired by the pseudo-Japanese LEGO NINJAGO theme. The design is modelled after real-life Japanese castles, which are built to guard important sites and work around the existing landscape. It offers a tasteful wood and stone construction, as well as more familiar elements like a cherry blossom tree.

Peeking inside the castle reveals kitchen and living areas, a training area, a bedroom and a number of concealed weapons. (However, we suspect the portrait of LEGO Matt LeBlanc may not survive to an official version). The outside of the castle also features a small stream with a bridge over it.

This LEGO set qualifies for the Third 2022 Review Stage, which covers LEGO Ideas projects that qualify between early September 2022 and early January 2023. However, the final results of the Review Stage may take a little longer to materialise – and this set has some fierce competition from several other LEGO Ideas submissions. You can learn more about all the LEGO sets in the Third 2022 Review Stage below.
