TikTok trend could be at the heart of recent LEGO Ideas 10K flood

LEGO Ideas has recently seen a flood of support for a record-breaking number of projects, and the answer could lie in a recent TikTok trend.

The LEGO Ideas second 2025 review round is currently sitting at a record-breaking 81 projects, with well over a month to go before the qualifying window closes. Forty-four of those projects have reached 10,000 supporters in the past five days, following an enormous platform-wide surge in votes – and it looks like a recent TikTok trend could be at least partly responsible.

The first Ideas project to go viral on TikTok was tanuki_brikz’s Pusheen the Cat, racking up thousands of views that appear to have translated into real votes on LEGO Ideas. The model was originally submitted to the crowdsourcing platform in October 2023, and took well over a year to reach 5,000 supporters – but shot over the 10,000-supporter line only hours after circulating on TikTok.

“Thank you all so much for 10,000 supporters, and especially those who shared this on TikTok!” tanuki_brikz wrote on the project page. “It means the world to me!”

In the wake of that project earning a spot in the second 2025 review, LEGO Ideas’ new army of voters proceeded to share other projects they’d stumbled across on the platform, encouraging viewers to back them in the race to 10K.

This would explain why so many projects have rocketed to 10,000 supporters in such a short space of time: many of the featured submissions under the LEGO Ideas tag on TikTok have only reached the review stage in the last three days, including The Rookie, House M.D. and Gravity Falls – Mystery Shack.

Some of the videos have upwards of 500,000 views, and while there’s no way to officially verify that those views have directly translated to LEGO Ideas votes, it’s not difficult to draw that line. (Just look at recent comments on the successful projects, for one thing.)

We’re now looking at the most LEGO Ideas projects in a single review since the inception of the platform, and with another seven projects reaching 10,000 supporters overnight, it’s showing no signs of slowing down. But while more projects means more options for future LEGO sets, the LEGO Ideas team generally only selects two or three new models at most from each review round.

The end result may therefore only be a much harder decision for the review board – and disappointment for those creators whose projects are rejected. They’ll at least receive the consolation prize awarded to every project that reaches 10,000 votes, which is up to $500 worth of LEGO sets. (For this review alone, the LEGO Group will be parting with at least $40,000 in product.)

Here’s a reminder of everything in the second 2025 review so far.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
