Brick-built astronaut has lift-off on LEGO IDEAS

In the same month as we had a fleet of space-themed sets from the LEGO Group themselves, a brick-built astronaut has just floated their way over the 10,000 supporter mark.

LEGO Astronaut is the 57th set to make it to the first 2021 review. Built by creator legotruman, LEGO Astronaut is a tribute to all the engineers and astronauts at NASA and is based on a genuine spacesuit, specifically the NASA Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU).

In real-life, the suit is most often used on missions to the International Space Station itself. Alongside the EMU, the set also includes the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU), used by Bruce McCandless II on the first untethered spacewalk in history, and the more recent generation SAFER unit, the kit of modern-day astronauts around the world.

The set is made from 927 bricks and has 12 separate joints for poising, so you can recreate the iconic photo of McCandless II as he made history, on which the set was based. The set also has NASA prints and mission logos for extra detail.
