LEGO Ideas needs this artistic Japan tribute model

With the increase in art recreations across Art and LEGO Ideas, this fan-designed Japan tribute set would be right at home in the latter theme.

31215 Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers will soon be landing on shelves as the latest release for LEGO Art, proving that 3D interpretations of artwork and sculptures have a place in the LEGO portfolio now and in the future. It’s this and the precedent that 21333 Vincent van Gogh – The Starry Night has set that makes LEGO Ideas the perfect home for HisBrickMaterials’ Art of Japan model.

The project has just hit 10,000 supporters on the platform, passing it into the first 2025 review accordingly. The user already has a brick-built otter in review for an official set and it’s worth noting that this submission has been pitched on LEGO Ideas before, but was rejected.

Now, the sizable model has another shot at joining the theme and there’s no better time for another fan-inspired art creation – one that wouldn’t require a license like 21333 Vincent van Gogh – The Starry Night.

Art of Japan is an original artistic creation that pays homage to the architecture and landscape of Japan with a mostly-monochrome Mount Fuji and pagoda silhouetted by the sun in the background, which happens to resemble the Japanese flag too.

The build is not two-dimensional with a base that extends from the frame similar to 21333 Vincent van Gogh – The Starry Night. This allows it to be displayed on a wall or on its own and the array of elements used would make for an interesting building experience.

For now, Art of Japan joins the first 2025 review alongside 23 other submissions inspired by places around the world, franchises and history, all of which are in contention for a future LEGO Ideas set.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
