Now this is a story all about how a ‘90s sitcom is trying to get a LEGO set

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is the latest ‘90s sitcom vying for a slot in the LEGO Ideas portfolio, reaching 10,000 votes on the crowdsourcing platform to enter the first 2025 review.

IsleOh’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: Banks Mansion has taken its sweet time racking up 10,000 supporters, having first been submitted to LEGO Ideas all the way back in June 2023, but it will now be considered for production as an official set all the same. In that nearly 20 month span, multiple LEGO Ideas sitcom sets have released or retired – including 21328 Seinfeld and 21336 The Office – while other projects have fallen at the final hurdle.

Which fate awaits IsleOh’s Fresh Prince project hinges on how popular the LEGO Group perceives this particular licence to be with its target audience, and it could really go either way. The model as it is here includes roughly 2,000 pieces and eight minifigures covering all the main characters of the show – Will, Carlton, Ashley, Hilary, Uncle Phil, Aunt Vivian, Geoffrey and Jazz – which would make it one of the more expensive LEGO sitcom sets.

We’ll find out whether The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: Banks Mansion makes the cut when the LEGO Ideas team reveals the results of the first 2025 review towards the back end of this year. For now, it joins a host of other sets in the running in this round – the qualifying window for which closes in May. Check them all out in the table below.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
