Retro robot toy leans on nostalgia in LEGO Ideas review

The LEGO Ideas first 2025 review has expanded with the latest nostalgic set, this time depicting a non-LEGO toy that you might recognise.

Life-sized LEGO recreations are all too common on LEGO Ideas – from 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera to 21332 The Globe and the latest hopeful fan designer on LEGO Ideas is employing a similar strategy with a heavy dose of nostalgia.

4EyesGuys is off to a great start on LEGO Ideas their first project has reached 10,000 supporters, proposing a retro toy recreation for a future LEGO Ideas set. After less than six months on the platform, their Kinetic Tin Toy is officially in the running for an official build as part of the first 2025 review.

With moving arms via an interior mechanism that moves when the robot goes forward and back and a familiar design that calls back to the retro robot toys from around 1950, it would likely draw a niche but notable crowd should it become a LEGO Ideas set. For now, this robot sits in the first 2025 review, which continues to fill with many intriguing proposals.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
