LEGO Barracuda Bay designer takes 22nd project to the Ideas review stage
The LEGO fan designer behind 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay has reached the review stage for the 22nd time, on this occasion with a brand new modular building.
Mediterranean Restaurant is Pablo Sánchez’s 22nd project to rack up 10,000 votes and reach the review stage, this time qualifying for the first 2025 review. It’s another notch in the belt of this veteran fan designer, who has been building and submitting projects to the crowdsourcing platform for seven years now – and in 2020 saw his pirates project turned into 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay.
While none of his other submissions have been given the green light, he’ll be hoping his 3,350-piece Mediterranean Restaurant is the one that finally cracks that particular nut again. But it’s facing an uphill battle: the LEGO Ideas team has only ever approved one modular building, and even then it stripped away 21353 The Botanical Garden’s lampposts and pavement in favour of an outdoor garden.
That 2024 set is at least modular-compatible, though, sitting across a pair of 32×32 baseplates – so the LEGO Group is clearly not wholly against sets that happen to be compatible with its core lines. But Pablo has already had several other modular buildings rejected at the review stage, with two more currently in review, so while the Mediterranean Restaurant – which is inspired by rural Spanish architecture – is undoubtedly beautiful, it’s probably not one you’re going to be buying and building any time soon.
