A different kind of LEGO train could be next for LEGO Ideas

The latest LEGO Ideas project to pass 10,000 supporters is proposing a different, but all too familiar kind of LEGO train.

Thomas the Tank Engine is the TV adaptation of the Railway Series books and the cast of talking trains and other vehicles has become popular with children worldwide. Now, KaijuBuildz is proposing that the franchise should get a LEGO Ideas set as their submission enters the second 2022 review round just before the deadline.

However, provided this project impresses the judges and becomes a real set, this wouldn’t be the first time that the LEGO Group has represented the talking trains in bricks as waves of DUPLO models released between 2005 and 2009 included larger brick-built versions of the characters. Some of these sets even included a Sir Topham Hatt figure, just like the minifigure proposed in the LEGO Ideas submission.

The design of the submitted model is more complicated than those DUPLO sets though, instead using a similar base as the one featured in 76405 Hogwarts Express – Collectors’ Edition including brick-built track and transparent pieces to hold the train in place.

This is the 50th project in the second 2022 LEGO Ideas review as the deadline for this round approaches. Here are all the other submissions that will soon be considered for a future LEGO Ideas set:
